Mudlarking on the Thames
The Thames is a very tidal river, going up and down by several metres as the tide comes in and out. For the first time we found somewhere you could actually get down to walk on the bank itself while the tide was right out. It was fascinating just picking over the rocks, seeing the detritus of a major city — much of what you see is actually bricks, tiles etc. etc. and it’s interesting just to wonder at the history of what you are seeing.
There was also a reasonable sized sandy stretch which the kids loved drawing in. It feels like a while since we’ve seen sand.
After a good play, here’s Jasper coming back up the steps to move on to the next attraction.
